Tuesday, Mozilla released the latest version of Firefox. Version 3.0 adds several new features and is touted to be the fastest web browser available. I’ve been playing with the new program since it was released in beta a few months ago and agree with most reports – it is fast and very user friendly. Here are a few details on the new program:

Performance: The program loads pages a lot faster than IE or version 2.0. It manages memory better, as well as web technology, like JavaScript. This will increase performance as your surf the web.

Security: Version 3.0 adds an anti-phishing feature. This will alert you to websites that are trying to gain access to your PC and steal data. It also adds an auto update feature. This is a much needed improvement – patches and security updates will automatically download when they become available.

Awesome Bar: The address bar has changed a bit and been dubbed “The Awesome Bar.” Time will tell if this is truly awesome, but it keeps track of the sites you go to most often and will display them when you begin typing in the address bar. So far, my experience is that this is a great feature.

We’ve updated our link to download the program. It is only 7MB – only a few seconds for DSL customers and very manageable for dial-up.

Sunday May 18th
We will be experiencing a partial dialup outage from 9am to 1pm. Our vendor is doing some work on our lines and the capacity will be cut in half during these hours. If you get disconnected during these hours, please redial and you should reconnect to another circuit.

Monday May 19th
Qwest has informed us that they will be doing more work on the DSL lines. They will start around 11pm Monday night and will be finished no later than 3am Tuesday morning. If you find that your DSL is not working on Tuesday morning or if you have service interruptions as you surf the web, recycle your modem. To do this, unplug power from the back of your DSL modem by removing the power from the wall – all lights will go out. Wait about 30 seconds and then return power to the modem. The modem will begin to reboot. Once you have a green DSL and Internet light, try your service. If you still have issues, please give us a call.

Late last week a few of us were talking about fun things topromote on WebBand. Sitting in my office were some of the Christmas Ducks that we sent to each of you. That’s when it hit me, “Let’s ask our customers to pose the ducks during
their holiday celebrations and take photos.”

So we’re sending out a “challenge” to find unique and fun ways to display your ducks. Take photos and then send them
to me (craig.brandvold@webband.com). We’ll display them at WebBand.com.

After the first of the year, we’ll select the top four or five photos and then let you vote to pick the winner. For
