WebBand Support will be CLOSED on Labor Day (Monday September 1st). We will be open regular hours on Saturday August 30th (9am to 3pm) and Tuesday September 2nd (8am to 7pm). Please have a safe and enjoyable holiday.

DNS Virus August 13, 2008

We’ve received a few calls asking about the DNS “virus” that has plagued ISPs world-wide. Basically, a DNS server is a list of IP addresses (such as 192.168.0.1) which will match that address to a URL (such as www.webband.com). Any time you type in a URL, the request will run through a DNS server so that the browser will know where to send you. This “virus” was filtering those requests and sending users to sites that would collect your private information. The consequences were very steep.
WebBand does NOT host our own DNS servers. We use a service called OpenDNS. This service is one of the most secure available, plus it is also one of the quickest – which means your service will be quicker. For more information on this, see their blog posting:
